Evercare Chattogram commits to filling healthcare gaps in Bangladesh

Evercare Hospital introduced multispecialty healthcare to the country’s second-largest city.

Evercare Hospital Chattogram, Bangladesh’s first multispecialty tertiary care facility, recently inaugurated its new operations with a pledge to bridge healthcare gaps in the country’s second-largest city.

Chief Operating Officer Samir Singh, in an interview with Healthcare Asia, discussed in detail the hospital’s strategic advancements, pandemic response, and specialized services.

Singh, who has 13 years of experience in the healthcare sector, took the helm of Evercare Chattogram in April 2022. His role involves managing the hospital’s operations and assisting the institution in representing its interests.

The decision to establish such a facility in Chattogram, stemmed from a careful city assessment revealing a significant need for high-quality tertiary care.

Singh said Chattogram, Bangladesh’s largest port city, was previously lacking in such medical institutions.

Evercare initiated its operations coinciding with the COVID-19 pandemic peak in 2021, a challenging period that saw the hospital play a vital role in managing the health crisis.

The hospital collaborated with local authorities, offering necessary tertiary care that included intensive ICU treatment.

“Our main aim [then] was to take care of lives here who are affected by COVID,” Singh said. Over the course of the pandemic, they successfully treated nearly 400 patients, ensuring top-notch ICU and regular medical treatments.

Singh said Evercare Chattogram distinguishes itself by offering a diverse range of specializations. It has 27 active specialties, including the latest radiation oncology programme, a robust cardiology programme, and a notable strength in neurology and neurosurgery.

Evercare also takes pride in its critical care facilities and its developing mother and child programme, he said. “We have 37 specialties, all active, offering what a tertiary care hospital would be,” Singh said.

In addition to providing an array of medical specialties, Singh said Evercare’s mandate involves creating societal impact and reaching out to the community.

Operating in markets where high-quality medical facilities are scarce, Evercare is keen on enhancing medical talent, providing high-standard care, and driving community programmes.

Singh finds these initiatives aimed at shifting the trend of seeking medical treatment abroad due to a lack of local facilities.

He said Evercare Chattogram has unique selling points, among them the hospital’s world-class infrastructure, superior medical talent, and adherence to quality parameters in line with the Joint Commission International accreditation programme.

Moreover, Evercare provides these high-quality services at an affordable price, showcasing specialties like radiation oncology and bone marrow transplant programmes that were previously unavailable in the region.

As the hospital moves forward, Singh anticipates a positive impact on society and an increasing focus on their unique cardiac care and mother-and-child programmes.

“We are bridging the gap and providing the best platform for medical care here, changing the mindset of patients who used to travel abroad for treatment,” he said.
