They have also outlined the plans for the new medical school in Hong Kong.
The Task Group on New Medical School, co-chaired by the Secretary for Health and the Secretary for Education, has announced invitations for proposals from universities for the establishment of a third medical school.
The Tassk Group held its second meeting, where it outlined 10 key parameters to guide the evaluation of proposals, which should be submitted by 17 March 2025.
“The Education Bureau expects the new medical school to contribute to the overall development of the relevant university, with detailed planning on interdisciplinary or intersectoral collaborations, teaching resources, quality assurance, research strategy, sources of staff and students, and institutional governance, etc.,” said Dr. Sze Chun-fai, acting secretary for education.
The 10 key parameters for consideration outlined are the following: innovative strategic positioning, staffing, campus and teaching facilities, clinical exposure and learning resources, curriculum structure and assessment methodologies, student admission arrangements, funding arrangements, implementation plan, teaching and learning quality, and research excellence.
The government will hold a briefing session on 10 December to introduce to interested universities the arrangements for the submission of proposals for the establishment of a new medical school.
In the next step, the Task Group will formulate concrete criteria for assessing proposals to ensure that a qualified and eligible university will be selected transparently and fairly for the establishment of the new medical school.
