Synapse Sdn Bhd (Synapse Laboratory) won the Diagnostics Provider of the Year - Malaysia category at the Healthcare Asia Awards 2026, recognising its role in advancing specialised molecular diagnostics and genetic testing capabilities across the country. The recognition highlighted the laboratory’s contribution to strengthening diagnostic access for healthcare providers and patients through technology-driven testing services and collaborative research initiatives.

Established in 2007, Synapse Laboratory operates as part of the Synagene Group of Companies and focuses on molecular diagnostics and genetic analysis. The laboratory was developed as a reference facility for specialised healthcare testing. Its services support hospitals, clinics, and healthcare institutions across Malaysia and provide diagnostic support to regional healthcare providers.

Operations extend beyond Malaysia through collaborations and diagnostic services provided to healthcare institutions in Singapore, Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, and India. This regional footprint positions the laboratory as a reference centre for specialised molecular and genetic testing where advanced diagnostics may not be readily available in certain healthcare systems.

The laboratory’s testing portfolio covers multiple diagnostic areas across different stages of patient care. Services include molecular diagnostics and genomic testing, such as next-generation sequencing and microarray-based analysis. These diagnostic capabilities support clinical applications including infectious disease detection, blood donor screening, perinatal and reproductive health testing, newborn screening for inherited metabolic disorders, oncology diagnostics, rare diseases diagnostics, and preventive health assessments.

Digital infrastructure also forms part of the laboratory’s operational framework. The laboratory developed an internal informatics platform known as SynapSys, together with the GeneJunction digital health portal. These platforms support laboratory workflows and provide clinicians and patients with digital access to diagnostic reports.

Accreditation frameworks support the laboratory’s operations and testing processes. Synapse Laboratory holds MS ISO 15189 accreditation for medical testing laboratories and accreditation from the College of American Pathologists, reflecting compliance with internationally recognised laboratory testing standards.
