Wollongong Hospital set for major upgrades and redevelopment

The Minns Labor Government has allocated $21.9m to fund the initiative.

Wollongong Hospital is set to undergo significant upgrades and future redevelopment following a $21.9m investment by the Minns Labor Government, the NSW Government announced.

A specialist design team has been appointed to lead the project. Their will collaborate closely with Health Infrastructure and Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District to identify critical clinical service priorities.

Throughout the year, ongoing consultation with staff, clinicians, and the community will ensure that their insights shape the project's evolution. The scope and construction timelines will evolve as planning progresses, with continuous engagement planned to keep stakeholders and the public informed.

Simultaneously, the Minns Labor Government is progressing with the $780m Shellharbour Hospital and Integrated Services project, including the new Warrawong Community Health Centre.

The $438m Shoalhaven Hospital Redevelopment is also well underway, reinforcing local healthcare capabilities and reducing reliance on Sydney for specialised treatments.

“It’s been decades since major works have been undertaken at Wollongong Hospital, and the appointment of a planning and design team means we can start to visualise how the future expansion of the region’s largest hospital might look and how critical upgrades will enhance health services,” said Minister for Health and Minister for the Illawarra and South Coast Ryan Park.
