SNUH to introduce Gijang Heavy Ion Particle Therapy Centre in Busan

The centre is scheduled to open in the second half of 2027.

South Korea’s Seoul National University Hospital (SNUH) is set to establish the Gijang Heavy Ion Particle Therapy Centre in Busan in the second half of 2027.

The centre, with a total construction cost of approximately $18.3m (KRW25b), will have a total floor area of 13,657㎡.

Moreover, the centre will feature a patient treatment area, a fixed beam treatment room, a rotating gantry treatment room, an accelerator room, and other research and laboratory facilities.

According to SNUH, the upcoming facility will focus on treating patients with various types of cancer, particularly those expecting severe side effects from X-ray treatment techniques.
