New diagnostic imaging clinic to support Cairns Hospital emergency cases
CT and MRI machines will diagnose strokes, cancer, heart disease, and infections.
New CT and MRI machines have been introduced at a new outpatient diagnostic imaging clinic within the Cairns South Health Facility in Edmonton, Queensland.
The installation expands access for outpatients, relieving pressure on existing imaging machines at Cairns Hospital, according to the State Government.
“In the past two years alone, there has been a 23% increase in service demand for CT scans and a 49% increase in service demand for MRI scans across the Cairns health service,” said Minister for Health and Ambulance Services, Tim Nicholls.
The machines will be used to diagnose conditions such as strokes, cancer, heart disease, injuries, and infections.
In addition, the clinic will provide mammography services for breast imaging and cancer screening.
