Australia's health ministry releases guidelines for A$23.m support for innovative medical trials

The trials chosen are expected to help underserved medical needs.

The Australian Health Ministry revealed guidelines for the A$23.7m grant that will help fund innovative trials that address areas of unmet medical need.

Specifically, the 2023 Innovative Trials grant opportunity will support projects that address areas of unmet medical need by either:

- promoting the development and implementation of adaptive platform trials
- conducting a registry-based randomised controlled trial.
- The grant opportunity will also support research that generates evidence on the efficiency and cost effectiveness of innovative trial designs.

The grant's funding came from the National Critical Research Infrastructure initiative—applications for the grant is open on 6 February 2024.

The National Critical Research Infrastructure has over A$650m for over 10 years between 2022-23 and 2031-32.
