National Cardiovascular Center Harapan Kita lauded at Healthcare Asia Awards

NCCHK exemplifies excellence with a mission to become a national reference in the field of cardiovascular care.

The National Cardiovascular Center Harapan Kita (NCCHK) has been recognised with two major titles at the coveted Healthcare Asia Awards for its success in promoting a cardiovascular referral network and becoming a national reference in the cardiovascular field.

The Cardiovascular Network Empowerment Programme aims to harmonise national services and the quality of cardiovascular services, as well as accelerate access to cardiovascular services.

The hospital began supporting the network more than 10 years ago, with programmes covering only adult non-surgical interventions and adult coronary artery bypass grafting. By 2024, the hospital will have three additional support programmes: paediatric cardiac surgery, paediatric non-surgical interventions, and pharmacological access for ST-elevation myocardial infarction.

Supported by the Indonesian Ministry of Health, the NCCHK programme currently focusses on 34 provinces to provide open-heart surgery.

It acts as a national coordinator for cardiovascular care, regionalising care to provincial hospitals that can already support care in district or city hospitals. The programme also includes the development of facilities, infrastructure, medical equipment, and human resources.

Meanwhile, NCCHK has also developed an innovation in paediatric cardiac interventions and congenital heart disease through its Zero Fluoroscopy Technique. The technique is a non-surgical method of closing septal defects such as atrial septal defect (ASD), ventricular septal defect, patent foramen ovale, and patent ductus arteriosus using transesophageal echocardiography.

The Zero Fluoroscopy Technique has been shown to be effective with shorter procedure time, reduced risks and complications, and shorter length of stay and recovery time.

This has been introduced through national and international proctoring activities and has been implemented in 352 services. In 2023, NCCHK successfully hosted an international conference and presented a live case demonstration of Zero Fluoroscopy Transcatheter ASD closure, which was broadcast live to hospitals in Indonesia, Japan, Hong Kong, China, and South Korea.

The cardiovascular centre took home the Specialty Hospital of the Year - Indonesia award, whilst its Zero Fluoroscopy technique won the Technology Innovation of the Year - Indonesia category.
