Asia Pacific vaccine investments fuel biopharmaceutical technology demand

Global biopharma PAT market to reach $4.32b by 2031.

Investments in vaccine manufacturing across Asia Pacific are driving demand for biopharmaceutical process analytical technology (PAT), as governments and pharmaceutical companies expand production capacity and strengthen pandemic preparedness, according to MarketsandMarkets.

The research firm expects the global biopharmaceutical process analytical technology market to grow from $1.96b in 2026 to $4.32b by 2031, at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 17.1%.

Asia Pacific is expected to hold the largest share of the market during the forecast period, supported by expanding immunisation programmes and investments in advanced manufacturing facilities across China, India, Japan, South Korea, and Australia.

The report said increasing production of conventional and next-generation vaccines, including mRNA, recombinant protein, and viral vector vaccines, is driving demand for technologies that enable real-time process monitoring, process optimisation, and quality assurance.

The expansion of contract development and manufacturing organisations (CDMOs), alongside the adoption of continuous bioprocessing, single-use technologies, and automated manufacturing systems, is also accelerating the use of analytical tools such as spectroscopy, chromatography, and mass spectrometry.

Beyond vaccine manufacturing, demand for biopharmaceutical process analytical technology is being driven by the need for higher product quality, faster therapy development, stricter regulatory compliance, and greater manufacturing efficiency.

Companies are increasingly adopting real-time monitoring and predictive analytics to improve production, reduce batch failures, and shorten development timelines.

By product type, the liquid chromatography/high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) segment is projected to record the fastest growth, with a CAGR of 17.7% between 2026 and 2031.

By technology, analysers accounted for the largest market share at 38% in 2025. Online systems held the largest share by system type at 45%, whilst biosimilars and biologics represented the largest application segment with a 39.9% share.

MarketsandMarkets said growing alignment with international quality standards and the focus on producing export-quality vaccines are expected to further support adoption of process analytical technologies across the region, helping manufacturers improve efficiency, ensure batch consistency, and reduce production risks.
