Ajou Hospital debuts virtual assistant kiosk for patients

It uses an on-screen virtual character to guide patients through processes.

Ajou University Hospital began pilot operations of its AI Metahuman Kiosk in South Korea, aimed at streamlining admission and discharge administrative services.

The kiosk uses an on-screen metahuman (virtual character) to guide patients through admission and discharge procedures, payment processing, and certificate issuance.

Installed in front of the admission and discharge counters, it extends access to these services outside regular hours.

A feature enabling detailed medical bill statement printing is set to be added in August—a capability previously unavailable on the hospital's older ward kiosks.

The current rollout offers one-way guidance only. The hospital plans to expand to a two-way service with real-time voice recognition and response once server capacity stabilises, though no timeline was given.
