Singaporeans lead the healthiest lifestyle.
The Philippines has the highest recorded total alcohol consumption rate and one of the countries with the highest rates of alcohol dependence and use disorders in Asia Pacific, according to a health survey by Value Champion.
The survey also revealed that Filipinos use more tobacco (24.3%), have higher cholesterol levels, and have one of the lowest physical activity rates.
Out of 12 countries, the Philippines is ranked 11 with Thailand as dead last in the rankings of healthiest Asia Pacific country.
Meanwhile, Singaporeans lead the healthiest lifestyle, ranking number one in the survey. The survey has attributed Singaporean’s healthy lifestyle to their healthy attitude towards vices like alcohol and tobacco. Others pointed out that Singapore has the highest alcohol and tobaco taxes in the region, making both products prohibitively expensive.
According to the World Health Organisation, 60% of deaths are caused by non-communicable diseases (NCD).
The survey looked at risk and behavior categories such alcohol consumption, tobacco use, and biological factors that can be caused by poor diet and exercise habits (obesity, high blood pressure) as the basis for this study.
